Rebecca's Story
CQM LEARNING WORK EXPERIENCE Case Study
CQM Changing Lives ... for the better
CQM understands people. We listen, we research the needs of recruiters and we look at the the skills of every potential employee. We use many criteria to assess skill sets, review and enhance learning programmes so that we can be sure that we are promoting the best possible match - we never try to fit a round peg into a square hole...
Rebecca is a fine example of the way we work in partnership with the care sector and potential employees, she had been out of work for nine months when she was referred to CQM Learning by A4e. Although she had some care experience she had not managed secure an interview.
CQM chatted to Rebecca and discussed her experience, her expectations aspirations and expectations. We enrolled her on our pre-employment training course which provides the underpinning knowledge of the common induction standards for care. Although she admits to not expecting much from a one day course, Rebecca says she found that the experience reinvigorated her enthusiasm for care “even though I had some care experience the course was really useful, the tutor got everyone thinking about the issues that carers face and I came out of the session feeling more informed and more optimistic.”
Within two weeks her CQM employer services consultant had secured her an interview for a position at a local care home. Rebecca says the CQM course had helped her get over her reservations about interviews “Obviously not getting interviews for so long knocks your confidence, but the CQM tutor talked about the skills and qualities that care homes looked for in employees and that made me realise that I had these and could offer a lot to an employer”.
Throughout the recruitment process CQM kept Rebecca updated on her progress. “CQM always dealt with issues that arose - rearranging interviews or problems with references” and six weeks after the course she started a full time position as a carer.
Six months later and Rebecca is now working towards a Health & Social Care level 3 qualification with the intention of becoming a Team Leader. “Without CQM I wouldn't be working in this job which I am absolutely loving! I would recommend CQM to anyone looking for work within care, whether you have got previous experience or not.”
Rebecca's Manager, Margaret, is equally effusive “If all the candidates are as good as Becky I'd take them all on! The staff and residents love her and CQM have coordinated a really successful recruitment process. It didn't cost us a penny and we are looking at taking on new staff and have asked CQM to prepare some candidates for that no that they now our needs so well”.
